Employment - Advice needed.
I visit this site often but very rarely message.

I however need the advice from complete strangers - though we all share the love for grown men.

I left my last place of work after three years as I had a 11K pay rise offer. The company was in the same sector (not a competitor) much bigger and offered a great package. It now appears the grass wasnt greener - though the money helps.

11k more per year plus less stress, i thought would be heaven. My old director got on the phone today asking me back (2k less a year than what I am on now). They are a lot smaller so cannot offer the full wage, plus with all the issues of why I left, now getting fixed. They have now realised how much i actually did.

So do stay with the new company that I have only been at for nine weeks or go back to the company that originally took me for granted but realised the mistake?

Any suggestion is welcome - No females work at either.....

Thanks in advanced

You really need to make sure you're happy with yourself - that includes at work and at play as they do impact on one another.

I've taken on what turned out to be really shitty contracts but knew they had a definite end-date/I could force the client's hand, but a permanent role is different.

If you need/have gotten used to the new rate of pay (and you needed the money) then, as has been mentioned, look yourself for ways to improve your place of work - start dropping hints around the place: getting others to feel it was they that came up with a good idea for improvement is a very important management tool.

If you managed to become a big fish in a small pond, then becoming a big fish in a big pond should present you with no insurmountable problems.

What is it that you do for work?

Do you see yourself doing the same job for the next 3 years?

Lots of good advice given, as one would expect, after all this WHO.

So you don't have to take mine, but if your old boss agrees to reinstate you WITH your old length of service considered, in other words as if you have never left, then go back.

Bruuuno's advice is sound here. Get off the fence one way or the other.

Don't want to offend you but you sound like a completely needy pansy who craves the approbation of others above all else. I'd make the following points;

- If your previous company took you for granted, do you actually think they will change when you go back for a bit more money and every now and again being told how super wonderful you are? Or is it more likely that after a couple weeks they'll revert to type. Going back for substantially less money than you're currently on is utterly lacking in conviction and marks you out as someone who can be paid in attention rather than sterling.

- If all the issues you left for are now fixed, what the fuck do thy need you back for? ( and see above)

- if your new company is so disorganised doesn't that offer a great opportunity to put your mark on the place if you have anything about you? Being bigger they presumably have the wherewithal to pay you for your inspiration, rather than take you for granted?

- The position you're adopting is analogous to a failed cry for help suicide attempt, as opposed to a 'grown man's' furtherment of his career.

- I look forward to you posting more often. Plenty of love on here.

Pull your new boss in, say you think you undervalued yourself, ask for 5 grand a year more.

If they say no, fuck off to the old job you like more.

Don't go back otherwise you'll be there until they carry you out. They'll only take you for granted again.

Find another employer with greater prospects for promotion. I think that is what you really want. Money is nice but job satisfaction is paramount... And I always found that one followed the other anyway...

Give up work.

Spread your seed.

Earn a mint off benefits.

How it works.

Its because your job at the moment is new and unfamiliar that you feel as you do. The memories of the old job seem a lot happier than the reality of it at the time. People tend to look back with misty eye's at how good it was back then.

I am kind of in a similar situation not only with new companies but with new countries as well. So apart from it halfway feeling like another adventure in life it also makes you feel a bit insecure for a while as its new everything. I was even looking back at my time in china with a bit of "Fondness" which is strange as I fucking hated every minute of being there and couldn't wait to get out of there. Stick with it mate , dont go back
